Mission

The purpose of the AI Foundry is to develop disciple-leaders who use AI to enhance human flourishing.

Human flourishing

Human flourishing can be defined in a variety of ways. We seek to do work that focuses on four dimensions.

Dimension In-scope of mandate Out of scope of mandate
Physical Extends capability, health, and safety Grows consumption of habit-forming substances
Mental / Intellectual Builds resilience, judgment, and skill Monetizes compulsion or distress
Social Strengthens teams, families, and communities, and expands opportunity Monetizes anger or conflict
Spiritual Serves dignity, purpose, and meaning Degrades dignity for attention or profit

Work that sits outside our mandate

We ensure project fit by considering an organization’s primary business and a particular project’s purpose. In general the following categories fall outside our mandate:

  1. Alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, cannabis, and other drugs of dependence.
  2. Coffee, tea, and similar habit-forming beverages.
  3. Volume growth for controlled substances: sales, script volume, and prescriber targeting.
  4. Gambling: sports betting, prediction markets, gamified retail trading, and casino-mechanic monetization.
  5. Pornography and the commodification of sex, in any form or channel.
  6. High-interest lending: payday, title, and refund anticipation.
  7. Political work: parties, campaigns, candidates, PACs, legislative offices, ballot initiative advocacy, and lobbying on a client’s behalf.
  8. Products marketed on unproven or deceptive claims.
  9. Brands whose public marketing is sexualized, innuendo-forward, profanity-forward, or built on party or intoxication culture, regardless of product category.

If a prospective client or project looks like it touches this list discuss with the faculty advisor before a scoping call.
