BYU Strategy - Marriott School of Business

Setup

Finish this before the workshop. If Claude Code already runs on your laptop and gh auth status says you are signed in, you are done; skip to step 6 to check the rest.

If something fails, paste the error into Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini and ask how to fix it. Most install errors are a missing dependency, and the chatbot will tell you what to install.

1. A paid Claude plan

Claude Code needs a paid plan: Claude Pro ($20 per month) is enough for the workshop. If you build with it daily you will reach Pro’s usage limits, and Claude Max ($100 per month) is the next step. See claude.com/pricing. A work Claude Team or Enterprise seat also works.

2. GitHub

The lab uses gh to clone the Agent Team Kit.

3. VS Code (or the editor you already use)

Download VS Code if you do not have an editor. On Windows, check Add to PATH during installation. Open a terminal inside it with Terminal → New Terminal.

4. Claude Code

In the terminal:

# macOS
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
# Windows (PowerShell)
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex

Check it, then start it and sign in:

claude --version
claude

Then ask Claude to install anything else you are missing:

Help me install the following or confirm they are already installed: git, Node.js (LTS), and pnpm.

The first time you run claude in VS Code’s terminal, it installs the Claude Code extension, which opens Claude’s changes in VS Code’s diff viewer. If you prefer the Claude desktop app, install it too; One Engine, Many Surfaces compares them.

5. Optional: Supabase and Vercel

Two parts of the workshop (the schema lock and the release pipeline) make more sense with a real database and a real deploy. Free accounts at Supabase and Vercel are enough. Sign up with your GitHub account. You can follow the workshop without them.

6. Optional: other coding agents

If your team uses another agent, install it too; One Engine, Many Surfaces maps Claude Code’s concepts to each.

Agent Install (macOS) Start
GitHub Copilot CLI brew install --cask copilot-cli copilot
OpenAI Codex curl -fsSL https://chatgpt.com/codex/install.sh \| sh codex
Google Antigravity CLI curl -fsSL https://antigravity.google/cli/install.sh \| bash agy
